Regional Farm Tour to Showcase Northeast Tennessee’s Agricultural Riches

JOHNSON CITY, TN – June 20, 2025 – Get ready! Experience the lively farms of Northeast Tennessee. The Appalachian NE Tennessee Resource Conservation & Development Council (RC&D Council) is excited to announce its Regional Farm Tour. This self-guided tour happens on Saturday, June 21st, from 1 PM to 5 PM. It’s a special chance to meet local farmers. You’ll learn about good farming practices. Also, you can celebrate our region’s rich harvest.

About the Tour

The Appalachian RC&D Council organizes this tour. It’s a non-profit group. They started in 1994. Their goal is to protect nature and help rural areas grow. They do this through community efforts and education. The Council works hard. They want to save Appalachian traditions. They also promote local businesses and farmers. Furthermore, they aim to protect land for the future. This tour truly shows their dedication. It highlights their work in farming, land protection, and rural tourism.

Explore Many Farms

A car pass costs just $25. With one pass, you can fill your car with family and friends. Then, go on a self-guided adventure. You’ll visit over 20 farms. These farms are in Sullivan, Greene, and Washington counties. The tour happens rain or shine. You’ll find many different experiences. For example, you can pet farm animals. You’ll also see beautiful scenery. You can buy fresh local products. Additionally, you’ll learn how food, fiber, and flowers are grown right here.

Here are some of the farms you can visit:

  • Green Pasture Farm & Hatchery (Chucky): See hydroponic greenhouses and a chicken hatchery.
  • Horse Creek Farm & Little Lou’s Cream Dairy (Chucky): Look at their cows and try tasty ice cream.
  • Gnome Hollow (Chucky): Enjoy meeting baby goats and many other farm animals.
  • Spade & Spoon (Johnson City): Discover eco-friendly gardening for cooking. Learn about their farm-to-table dinners.
  • Serenity Knoll Farm & Kitchen (Jonesborough): Explore mountain gardens. Find out how hydro towers work.
  • The Stickley Farm (Kingsport): Famous for its corn maze and farm fun.
  • Two Roots Alpacas with Hooda Thought Farm and Hawk Hill Lavender Farm (Greeneville/St James): Visit alpacas and a fiber shop. Find local meat, dairy, and lavender items.
  • This Cob House (Greeneville/St James): Learn about building homes with natural materials. See examples on site.
  • Butterfield Farm (Telford): See how they move animals for grazing. Observe their land and water protection efforts.
  • SideLine Farms (Chuckey): This farm is over 100 years old. They raise grass-fed beef.
  • Rocky Creek Highlands (Jonesborough): Admire and pet their furry Highland Cows.
  • Knob Creek Winery & Museum (Johnson City): Taste wine and learn history at this old farm.

A full list of all farms will be given to those with car passes. It will include addresses and details about activities.

Music and Fun at Whispering Oaks Farm

The farm tour doesn’t stop at sunset! Keep the local spirit alive. Join a benefit concert for the Appalachian RC&D Council. It’s at Whispering Oaks Farm in Gray. The concert runs from 5 PM to 8 PM. This evening event offers refreshments and local food trucks. Plus, enjoy a show by the popular band, The Barefoot Movement. Camden Benoit will start the music. He’s a singer-songwriter from Johnson City. He also won the Council’s “Love For Land” songwriting contest.

Concert tickets are $25 each. Or, get a special $45 car pass. This pass covers both the Farm Tour and concert entry. Enjoy local popcorn and Mayfield ice cream. You can also have beer from Holston Distributing and Tennessee Hills. Relax under the peaceful trees at Whispering Oaks Farm.
