Wacky Cake

World War 2 Era minimalist recipe for Wacky Cake that reflects the changes people had to make due to rationaing dirung the war,

Equipment

  • 1 Whisk or Spatula
  • 1 Large Mixing Bowl
  • 1 Standard 9x13-inch baking pan
  • 1 Small mesh sieve (for dusting powdered sugar)

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 Tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 1 Tbsp vinegar
  • 5 Tbsp melted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Instructions

  • Mix all ingredients well.

  • Pour into a baking pan.
    Pour into a pan
  • Bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes.
    Bake at 375 for 30 minutes and cool
  • Test with a toothpick in the center and adjust baking time as needed.
  • Cool and dust with powdered sugar.
