Kentland Farm Field Day Brings Research to the Farm

The Kentland Farm Field Day is scheduled for September 15 at Virginia Tech’s Kentland Farm near Blacksburg. The program runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 5250 Whitethorne Road and lets farmers see agricultural research and management practices on a working farm. Registration costs $15 per person, and space is limited. Virginia Tech asks participants to register by September 8.

Field days offer something difficult to duplicate in a classroom or online program. Farmers can see crops, livestock, equipment, and management systems in action. They can also talk with Extension personnel, researchers, and other producers about how those practices might fit their own operations.

Kentland Farm serves Virginia Tech’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences as a site for agricultural research, teaching, and Extension work. Past Kentland field days have included wagon tours, livestock and horticulture demonstrations, and presentations on research taking place at the farm. Previous Extension programs at Kentland have explored subjects such as cover crops, irrigation, seasonal grasses, fruit production, pest management, livestock watering, cattle handling, fencing, and agricultural technology.
