AHFM Market Guide Privacy Policy

AHFM Market Guide is published by Appalachian Highlands Farmers Magazine, a publication of Gavel Media. This Privacy Policy explains how the AHFM Market Guide Android app handles information when you use the app.

Information the app uses

Farmers market directory data

The app retrieves published farmers market listings, schedules, special dates, program information and related directory data from our online database. This information is public directory content and is not personal information about app users.

Location

The Nearby feature can use your device’s location to calculate which published markets are closest to you. Location access is optional and is requested only when you choose to use the feature.

The current version of the app uses location in the foreground only. Your latitude, longitude and location accuracy are used on your device to calculate distance to markets. AHFM does not save your device location to its farmers market database, and the app does not request background-location access.

You can deny or later revoke location permission in Android settings. The rest of the directory can still be used without location access.

Favorites

When you save a market as a favorite, the market identifier is stored locally on your device using Android/Capacitor preferences or local browser storage. Favorites are not sent to AHFM.

Suggested listing updates

If you use Suggest an Update, the app sends the following information to our database so our editors can review the report:

the market listing you are reporting;
the type of change;
the details you provide;
an optional source or website URL;
your name, if you choose to provide it; and
your email address, if you choose to provide it.

Your name and email are optional. If provided, we use them only when our editors need to follow up about the submitted update or to review and document the report. Submissions do not automatically change a public listing; our editors verify information before publication.

We retain listing-update submissions as needed to review, verify, resolve and document directory changes and to maintain the accuracy of the Guide. We may delete or anonymize information when it is no longer needed for those purposes. To request deletion of personal information you submitted through a listing-update report, email publisher@gavelmedia.com with enough information for us to identify the submission.

Network and service providers

The app connects to third-party infrastructure in order to function. Those services may receive ordinary technical information that accompanies internet requests, such as an IP address, request time, browser or device information, and the resources requested.

The current app uses:

Supabase to provide the published market database and receive listing-update submissions;
OpenStreetMap tile servers to display map tiles; and
UNPKG to load the Leaflet mapping library used by the Guide.

These services operate under their own privacy terms and may process technical request information as part of providing their services.

Information we do not intentionally collect through the app

The current AHFM Market Guide does not request background location. Favorites remain on the device. The app does not require an AHFM user account to browse the Guide.

We do not sell personal information submitted through the AHFM Market Guide.

Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical measures intended to protect information submitted through the app. No internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Children

The AHFM Market Guide is a general-audience directory and is not designed to collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal information through the update form, contact us so we can review the request.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the app, its features, or legal requirements change. The effective date at the top of this page will identify the current version.
