Herd & Forage Improvement takes center stage during a Virginia farm field day designed to give cattle producers practical information on forage quality, grazing management, and livestock performance. Participants will see research involving lespedeza and novel endophyte fescue, learn about rotational grazing practices, and hear about resources that may help improve herd health and pasture productivity.

See Forage Research on a Working Cattle Farm

Virginia State University’s Small Farm Outreach Program will hold the Herd & Forage Improvement Farm Field Day on October 6 from 4 to 6 p.m. at A&W Ranch in Penn Laird, Virginia. The program will give livestock producers a close look at on-farm research and management practices used in a Shenandoah Valley Angus operation.

Rancher Glenn Anderson and Small Farm Agent Tim Sexton will discuss research comparing lespedeza and novel endophyte fescue and how those forage choices can affect cattle nutrition and weight gain. Anderson will also lead a ranch tour and discuss his use of rotational grazing.
