Soil Test Results and Interpretation

Understand What Your Soil Test Is Telling You
Soil Test Results can provide farmers and landowners with valuable information, but making sense of the numbers and recommendations is not always straightforward.
Virginia State University’s Small Farm Outreach Program will offer Soil Test Results and Interpretation on October 7 from 5 to 6 p.m. Eastern. The virtual webinar will help participants understand their soil reports and use the information to make practical management decisions for farms and other properties.
The program will walk participants through a soil-test report step by step, explaining what laboratories test, why those measurements matter, and how the results relate to soil management.
Turn Test Results Into Management Decisions
A soil test can help producers identify nutrient needs and determine whether soil conditions may be limiting plant growth. But the report becomes most useful when producers understand how to interpret its recommendations.
The webinar will explain how farmers and landowners can use soil-test information when making decisions about soil fertility and long-term management.
Participants will also learn more about the connection between soil health and productive, resilient soils. The program will discuss practical strategies producers can use to improve soil conditions over time rather than viewing a soil test as simply a list of numbers.
Build Confidence in Soil Management
This session is appropriate for people new to soil testing, as well as producers who have received soil-test reports before but want a better understanding of what the results mean.
The goal is to help participants become more confident using soil information when making decisions for their farms, gardens, or other properties.
The webinar will be held through Microsoft Teams. Participants should install Teams on the device they plan to use, check their microphone and speakers ahead of time, and open the meeting link a few minutes before the program begins.
Registration is available through Virginia State University’s Small Farm Outreach Program.
