Cattle WISE returns October 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Devils Backbone Camp in Roseland, Virginia. The Virginia Women in Agriculture program gives participants hands-on experience with cattle management, safety and decision-making.
The 2026 agenda includes medication and chuteside work, reproduction, emergency veterinary calls, low-stress handling, newborn care, grading and sales. Tallow processing is also included in the program.
Skills Farmers Can Use at Home
WISE training was developed by female Virginia Cooperative Extension agricultural agents to strengthen practical farm skills and confidence. Organizers say more than 200 women in Virginia have participated in Cattle and Equipment WISE programs since 2021.
The hands-on format is intended to give participants experience with procedures and equipment rather than limiting the day to classroom presentations.
Registration Options
Cattle WISE registration is $50. A networking dinner is available separately on the evening of October 8, and participants can also choose package registration that includes multiple WISE sessions.
Need-based scholarships are available. Advance registration is required.
